About This Work

"Capturing the Light" In this piece, I've poured my fascination with the interplay of light and nature onto the canvas, embracing a symphony of colour. The brush strokes are a dance between dreams and reality, crafting a forest bathed in a vibrant, enchanting glow. Imagine this artwork as a perpetual woodland dawn in your home, radiating joy and serene energy in every direction. It's a window to a world where magic and the mundane mingle with a sense of distance so that you feel as though taking a journey in to a forest bathing place. It begins with walks through the beautiful forest where I live close to the natural world. This is the foundation of a creative process and continues with intuitive imaginative development of the painting. The light falls through beautiful leaves with bright colours as though the light is breaking through the trees, while the delicate textures created with a palette knife create abstraction in the foreground. An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on deep edged canvas. My process begins with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. From these beginnings I work intuitively, painting some base layers with a brush and then impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife. Harnessing optical mixing techniques employed by the impressionists and some of the methods of the old masters such as scumbling and glazing. I continue working until the painting reaches a natural conclusion. The result is a contemporary painting, which lies somewhere between abstraction and realism. The painting continues round the sides, a frame is not needed. For overseas shipping the painting will need to be taken off the wooden stretcher and rolled in to a cardboard tube. When it arrives the customer will need to have it re-stretched on to a wooden stretcher frame by a framer.
