"Die Facette"(German)... facet,piece,aspect.
My work as of late has been an attempt to piece together shapes and marks to optically mix and create visual feelings of form and movement. Squares, rectangles, triangles are some of my more common marks, with teardrops and comet trails mixed in generously. Rather than soft atmospheric blends, clean abrupt edges are my preferred format. The emphasis is on facets of varying size and shape. Computer images are made of facets (or pixels as they are called), although these are uniform in size and shape and amount to pointillism, but with squares. My end result is (I hope) a Geometry of the world as we know it, an analytic map of forms and their movement through space. An attempt to go one step beyond cubism, pointillism, abstraction.

Much has been said about the "picture plane" in modern and post modern art. I
personally have no interest in it, other than it being the physical surface upon which I work. I don't want to "respect" it's integrity. I don't want to emphasize it or draw
attention to it. In fact i want to remove all perception of it. Of course this is ultimately impossible since it's there and not going anywhere. But I want to create work that hovers above, beyond it, around it and anywhere else I can lead the viewer on a journey to. Whether an illusion of reality or one of the inner mind, it is all still an illusion, like art itself. A dream waiting to become reality........Werner Foster
