Dirk Karsten

After working as an advertising photographer for so many years it was time to start creating the images I always wanted but never had the time to do so. It often ment going back to the locations I used for my work and look in a completely different way. This freedom to create my own vision felt incredibly liberating but was far from easy in the beginning. However my 30 years plus experience has been a tremendous help in being able to create what is in my imagination. I live with my wife both in Amsterdam and Florida and travel whenever possible but also feel very much at home in my studio photographing portraits and still life's.

I have been in a final exam commission for 10 years plus (school of photography) and have given several small workshops for photography students.

Biennale Venice Italy, several group exhibitions.. Also several images were acquired by museums .

The two photographers that influenced me most are Sarah Moon and Albert Watson.....Their work is so timeless and beautiful....
