Artist Statement:
As a child I spent hours on end with my sketch pad getting lost in my drawings. My dream was to become a commercial artist. Instead, as a young adult, I became a hairstylist and ultimately owned my own salon for a number of years. I realize now, that becoming a hairstylist was a way for me to earn a living, and still keep a connection with the creative process.
After choosing to stay home to raise my children, my desire to create was still alive. Upon the completion of my first painting, a mural over my daughter's crib, a passion for painting was born.
Over the years, I have experimented and painted on anything from furniture, walls, canvas, glass, wood, columns and more. I even designed and painted a 15 ft diameter dome on a 31 ft high ceiling. After that monumental task, I decided to stick with canvas work mostly.
At this point in my career, I tend to lean toward acrylics, using vivid, intense color combined with texture and glaze to achieve the desired effect. I also love to experiment with water and washes to add further interest to my abstract work.
Quite often, my work is a reflection of my love to travel. I employ abstract and impressionistic styles to express my view of the world. However, there are times in which the combination of color and texture come together to form a unique piece left open to one's own interpretation.
As a self taught artist, I feel very blessed to have my work in various homes , offices and businesses not only locally, but across the country as well.
I am so excited to be able to share my work with others through Zatista, thank you for visiting my store!
